Unfit to
Ultra.

An eight-minute documentary following Limassol runner Neo Fojtik from a first 5km run to a 100km solo ultramarathon—and the mental shift that made the distance possible.

Neo Fojtik running at night in the Unfit to Ultra Cyprus documentary

The story

Endurance without the usual spectacle.

The scale is 100 kilometres, but the documentary begins with something more recognisable: anxiety, self-doubt and one five-kilometre run. Neo Fojtik, a 19-year-old Czech-Cypriot runner living in Limassol, used running as a way to rebuild confidence before progressing to an 80km Backyard Ultra and then planning a solo 100km effort.

The film stays close to the human experience of endurance. Running through the night, physical pain and the private argument between stopping and continuing carry more weight than a conventional highlight reel. That makes the documentary relevant beyond sport: it is about what happens when a person changes the story they tell themselves.

Cyprus is not just a backdrop. The route, darkness, roadside movement and changing light locate the challenge in a real landscape while keeping Neo's experience at the centre. The project also connects the run with mental-health awareness and support for Cyprus Samaritans.

Documentary approach

A real journey, shaped clearly.

For a Limassol documentary filmmaker, the challenge is to preserve what is true while giving the audience a clear emotional route through it. The structure moves from the accessible beginning—a first 5km—to the scale of the 100km attempt. Interviews provide reflection; observational footage makes the effort tangible.

The result is a compact local documentary that can work for viewers interested in endurance sport, Cyprus stories, youth filmmaking and mental health. It shows the kind of character-led approach I bring to documentary and commercial projects: listen first, find the honest detail, then build the film around it.
